Trauma
Franki&Jonny were briefed to create a visually arresting campaign for client Warner Bros Pictures for psychological horror, TRAUMA starring Colin Firth. They developed a consistent and striking identity across print and online media that highlighted the film's themes of isolation, grief and insanity to a diverse target audience of Horror and Colin Firth fans! For the website the challenge was to probe the minds of the target audience and to get under their skin. Playing on the character's sessions with an unseen psychiatrist in the film, the website is navigated by engaging in a 'chat' with a 'therapist'. To do this, Franki&Jonny used Macromedia Flash to re-program "Eliza", the celebrated 1960's computer model of Rogerian therapy, to make it both guide to the site as well as therapist to the user. During the session, the clean, white interface slowly degenerates to unsettle the user, ants crawl (and die) across it and ambient audio is gently introduced to give the user a further sense of unease. -
[REC] microsite
A microsite to promote The Contender Group's UK release of Spanish horror movie [REC]. Mimicking the film's perspective of the unedited output of a single news camera, the site places the user in [REC] mode, where they can explore the film's zombie-ridden apartment block, inviting them to experience the realistic horror for themselves using exactly the same media through which the film is shot. Entering PLAY mode displays video camera options as navigation to find out more information about the film. -
Power Is A State Of Mind
www.powerisastateofmind.com promotes Metrodome's release of The Assassination of Richard Nixon starring Sean Penn on April 8 in the UK. The film is based on the little-known true story of Sam Bicke's attempted assassination of Richard Nixon in 1974. The site is a spoof government psyche evaluation test, mimicking the self-help books and tapes pushed upon Bicke by his salesman boss in the film. The test offers a surreal take on the multiple-choice questions used at the time, baffling users and forcing further investigation. Upon completion, the screen collapses to reveal a bold, graphical timeline - a shelf packed with books and objects, each one with intriguing graphical and audio/visual content behind it. This content is a multi-media journey through modern American history, charting the disintegration of community values and honesty that drove Sam Bicke to take action. A personalized file is located on the user's birth date, which reveals the analysis of their own test - the target demographic will find their folder amongst the core events of the story. Powerisastateofmind.com will be promoted across interactive and outdoor media, with a heavy tube campaign in the capital. -
The Magic Flute Film Website
The site is a promotional tool for Kenneth Branagh's new production of Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute". Our brief can be summarised as creating a "place to play"; this is a site that aims to attract a new audience to opera by immersing them in the world of the film and the opera in a creative and playful way. The backdrop for the website is a visual abstraction of the entire opera. Each square is a bar in the opera, producing an interface consisting of a coloured grid of over 3,200 squares. The simple, consistent flute navigation allows viewers to focus on the Overture, Act I or Act II. Content is housed across blocks of squares, or bars, whose music is relevant to that piece of content. All content evolves in its own particular way from the grid. The content itself consists of games, text pieces and video pieces using information and material we collated during frequent visits to the set during production. The result is an entirely new approach to producing a film website. It utilises striking design and cutting-edge technology to extend the world of the film, both entertaining and informing the viewer.
